Channing Tatum: The Next Action Hero?

Channing Tatum tends to get a lot of unnecessary hate from people and I’m not really sure why, jealousy maybe?

He’s a pretty decent actor but he totally has the look and build for an action star too. Sure he’ll probably not win an Oscar any time soon but that’s not the job of an action star.

His action movies have so far been mostly family friendly fare, but if he were cast in one of The Expendables movies I wouldn’t be too upset.

Any time I see him interviewed he comes across as a decent and likable guy and on screen he brings authenticity to his roles.

His upcoming actioner White House Down (the PG-13 version of Olympus Has Fallen) does look like a lot of fun and no matter what the final product ends up like, I know Tatum will be convincing.

I especially like how he is wearing the John McClane style white string vest. That is the uniform of the action hero and Tatum wears it well.

He’s not afraid to take risks and I thought it was a very ballsy move and really showed a lack of ego when he got killed off 10 minutes into G.I. Joe: Retaliation. There are a lot of actors who would really protest doing something like that but it hasn’t hurt his career one bit.

Despite the first G.I. Joe movie’s flaws Tatum kicked plenty of asses but he was also good with humour. All you need to do is watch him in 21 Jump Street and you’ll see a man who can do comedy really well.

In the movie Fighting, Tatum tried his hand at an (almost) Rocky style film and he played a tough, bruiser in a convincing fashion. When he threw a punch, you believed it.

Tatum appears to be really embracing his action hero status and is introducing the youngsters of today to the ass-kicking action genre.

I’m personally looking forward to White House Down and I think it’s going to be a good night out. Tatum has a long career ahead of him and I hope he continues to take risks and doesn’t forget to bring the ‘splosions as he branches out into different genres.
