John Hyams to Direct Maniac Cop Remake

This is news from yesterday but in case you missed it, according to Twitch Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning/Regeneration director John Hyams is set to direct a remake of Manic Cop.

This is actually a remake I don’t mind because with all of the controversy going on just now about police brutality, you could have some interesting social commentary.

The plot of the original movie is as follows: Innocent people are being brutally murdered on the streets of New York City by a uniformed police officer. As the death toll rises and City Hall attempts a cover-up, Frank McCrae heads the investigation.

A young cop, Jack Forrest, finds himself under arrest as the chief suspect, having been the victim of a set-up by the real killer and a mysterious woman phone-caller. Forrest, his girlfriend Theresa, and McCrae set out to solve the puzzle before the Maniac Cop can strike again.

Hyams also confirmed this news on his Twitter page.

I’m intrigued to see how this turns out but I’m also pleased to see Hyams getting more work as I think he is one of the most talented action directors out there today.
