Ip Man Spin-off Picked Up by Well Go USA

Well Go USA continue to bring the best of Asian cinema to to North America and Screen Daily has announced that Well Go have “swooped on North American and UK rights to two Pegasus Motion Pictures’ titles – Ip Man: Cheung Tin Chi, a spin-off of the blockbuster Ip Man series, and Fruit Chan’s action drama Invincible Dragon.

Ip Man: Cheung Tin Chi, which is currently in pre-production, also went to KSM for Germany, Kidarient for South Korea, and Conquest Film for Latin America.

Directed by Yuen Woo-ping, the $28m film follows the character played by Zhang Jin in the Ip Man martial arts series, and also stars Dave Bautista, Michelle Yeoh and Tony Jaa.

Well Go USA also took Australia and New Zealand rights to Invincible Dragon, which also stars Zhang along with Anderson Silva, Stephy Tang and Kevin Cheng.

Pegasus also sold the film to KSM for Germany, Kidarient for South Korea, and Conquest Film for Latin America.

Currently in post-production, Invincible Dragon follows an undercover agent who clashes with a Macau detective and US army veteran. Delivery is scheduled for 2018.”

Variety is also reporting that Well Go has “acquired domestic rights to Jung Byung-gil’s The Villainess, which is playing in the Cannes Film Festival’s Midnight section. Byung-gil wrote, produced and directed the action film which stars Kim Ok-bin, Shin Ha-kyun and Bang Sung-jun. It premieres Sunday night in the Grand Theatre Lumiere.

Synopsis: Kim Ok-bin plays Sook-hee who from an early age has been taught to kill. She gladly accepts the chance to start a new life when South Korea’s Intelligence Agency recruits her as a sleeper agent, with the promise of complete freedom after ten years of service. But soon after taking on her new identity as Chae Yeon-soo, a 27-year-old theatre actress, she begins to realize that for someone who has lived as a killer her entire life, normal is no easy task. When two men from her past suddenly appear in her new life, it unlocks dark secrets that should’ve stayed hidden, and the fallout is swift and explosive.”
