Review: The rip-roaring adventure fantasy Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow has garnered a steady cult following since its flop of a theatrical release over a decade ago, and La La Land Records has just released a two-disc complete score set from the film! From composer Edward Shearmur, the exciting score gets the deluxe treatment with 113:44 minutes of music. Shearmur, whose other compositions include The Count of Monte Cristo, Species II, and Reign of Fire, amongst others, delivered his biggest, richest, and best score to date with Sky Captain. Filled with rousing themes and a comic book-styled orchestral score, the music is one of the last great scores we’ve gotten in the modern cinematic era. Compared with the abridged CD release from Sony Classical that was released concurrently with the theatrical layout, La La Land’s loving and exemplary release is a winner.
